Working with minimal supervision, the Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in all facets of store operations. Using Game Stop’s buy, sell, trade, and reservation business model, the Assistant Store Manager develops and promotes a sales culture by creating individualized and complete solutions for every guest and providing outstanding guest service experiences through professional conduct and a shared passion for gaming.
The position supervises Sales Associates and Retail Keyholders in the absence of the Store Manager.
Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities- Provide best‑in‑class guest service: greet guests promptly, respond to questions and concerns quickly, advise on video‑gaming needs, inform guests of special promotions, and recommend additional items as appropriate.
- Support the total shopping environment, including visual and operational elements, current sales initiatives, and the guest relationships that lead to sales and repeat business.
- Process guest purchases and return transactions accurately using the POS system, ensuring correct payment, receipt provision, and exceptional guest service.
- Respond to guest comments in person or over the phone, escalating customer issues to the Store Manager when appropriate.
- Promote Game Stop’s unique guest benefits, such as the new title reservations program, trade‑in program, and Pro Rewards loyalty program.
- Assist the Store Manager with setting guest service expectations and training associates on store policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Observe associate performance, provide timely feedback, and address unsatisfactory performance per company policy.
- Recognize associate performance, regularly input written feedback into Workday/HR systems.
- Ensure associates complete onboarding, job training, and compliance training before opening or closing shifts.
- Coordinate store scheduling to maintain optimal staffing and guest service.
- Approve payroll, enter paid time off, make time edits, and verify all pay for time worked.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all store areas, including restrooms, and ensure fixtures and equipment are functional.
- Fulfill and ship omni‑channel orders daily.
- Implement effective inventory control and loss prevention practices, including scam awareness and safety protocols.
- Support the team in meeting and exceeding sales, profit, and shrink goals while performing required administrative duties.
- Perform store inventory counts and restock merchandise on sales floor.
- Count, balance, and reconcile daily transaction totals in the POS system, completing closeout paperwork and bank deposit slips accurately.
- Verify shipment discrepancies, record them, and communicate to Store Manager or District Manager.
- Process defectives and recalls accurately.
- Maintain awareness of associate and guest safety; report injuries promptly.
- Maintain store records and ensure manuals are current.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to Associates in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Consistently adhere to all Company policies, including the Associate Handbook and Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
- Follow all opening and closing procedures.
- Proof of identity and eligibility to legally work in the United States.
- Minimum 18 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor's degree in business, marketing, merchandising, or related field preferred.
- At least 6 months of retail management experience preferred.
- At least 2 years of retail sales or guest service experience preferred.
- Video‑game knowledge preferred.
