The RN performs under the direct supervision of the Patient Care Coordinator and is delegated an assignment by the coordinator to achieve quality patient care. The RN Staff Nurse shall implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the Patient Care Coordinator as evidenced by documentation in Patient Care Record, direct observation by Patient Care Manager and patient evaluations of care.
The RN will perform other job duties as assigned. The RN is responsible to the Patient Care Coordinator for patient care and ultimately accountable to the Oncology Service Line Administrator.
Performance expectations:
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed.
- Demonstrates thorough, concise and timely documentation, shift reports and verbal communication.
- Communicates pertinent patient information to all health care team members.
- Maintains own clinical skills staying current in skills, equipment and certifications required in hematology/oncology nursing.
- Communicates effectively with others in an appropriate and timely manner
- Adheres to and promotes the established values of the organization, i.e. customer service, safety and compliance standards.
- Demonstrates effective workstyle and teamwork
- Demonstrates commitment to work quality
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills
- Demonstrates proper, secure documentation in the electronic health record
- Demonstrates proper technique for central line dressing change, cap change, and administration of medication via central line.
- Demonstrates skills to safely administer chemotherapy/biotherapy solutions per protocol and physicians orders (once chemotherapy certified)
- Demonstrate proper transferring techniques utilizing assistive devices as needed
- Responds promptly to stabilize patient with acute change in conditions
- Demonstrates ability to perform all technical skills required for the OPaCS' patient population by rendering professional nursing care including but not limited to administering medications, starting IVs, maintenance of IV lines and ports, venipuncture, administration of blood products, patient education, sterile dressing changes, and performs both complex and routine treatments as ordered by physician.
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program required.
Work Experience:
One year medical/surgical nursing care preferred.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
- Basic Life Support
Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Required
- Chemotherapy Certification
Required
** Must be renewed with 30 days of expiration
