We are seeking an experienced secretary to join our friendly medical secretary team, at Lister House Surgery in Hatfield. This role is offered on a part-time basis, for 28-30 hours per week, and is an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where organisational skills and a friendly demeanour are highly valued.
The position is suitable for individuals with prior secretarial or medical secretary experience looking to contribute to a well-established organisation. Although NHS experience is not required, all applicants must have secretarial or administration experience.
This job is a fast paced role and requires an individual who can work quickly and efficiently across a variety of systems so a fast typing speed is essential.
Main duties of the job- Process referrals, utilising local referral pathways i.e. electronic referral system (NHS e-referrals), as appropriate.
- Audio-typing referrals and reports using digital dictation system software.
- Provide an efficient word processing service for the GPs and wider practice team. This includes typing of letters, reports, patients referral, minutes in an accurate manner.
- Deal with queries from the practice team, patients, hospital providers and outside agencies.
- Utilise the medical record system (Systm One) to process patient data.
- Deal with tasks allocated to the secretarial team.
- Monitor the generic email and deal with relevant queries, efficiently.
- Process and distribute incoming patient information as appropriate.
- Work to practice protocols/workflows.
- Cover members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.
- Assist the practice manager with clerical administrative duties as required.
- Maintain filing and administrative systems.
Lister House Surgery has strong clinical and administration support and excellent working relationship with our primary care network.
- Systm One practice, users of Ardens and Accu Rx.
- Strong collaborative working with the 3 other practices in Hatfield Primary Care Network and wider GP Federation.
- Organised GP team consisting of 8 partners, 3 salaried GPs, and 2 registrars.
- Experienced nursing team including 1 nurse prescriber, 2 practice nurses & 1 HCA, with nurse led minor illness and chronic disease clinics.
- Training practice.
- Excellent transport links to London.

Person Specification Experience- Previous experience working as a secretary or in administration - your application will not be considered without this experience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- A fast typing speed
- Previous experience as a medical secretary
- Experience of working in general practice
- Experience of working within Systm One
