About the RoleAs a Payroll Officer at Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui Hawkes Bay, your day begins with precision and purpose. Youll be at the heart of ensuring our people are paid accurately and on time, navigating weekly pay runs, verifying deductions, and resolving queries with professionalism and care. Youll liaise closely with managers, HR, and recruitment teams to maintain employee records and support rostering needs, all while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and service.
Whether you're analysing audit reports, responding to complex payroll questions, or identifying opportunities for process improvement, your role is vital in keeping the organisation running smoothly. Every day brings a mix of routine and challenge, with opportunities to contribute to quality improvement and support a culture of excellence.
Youll be joining a close-knit, collaborative payroll team based at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Hospital. Led by the Payroll Team Leader, the team works together to deliver accurate and timely payroll services across the district. With strong connections to the Corporate and People & Culture Directorates, the team values integrity, responsiveness, and continuous improvement - making it a great environment for someone who thrives on detail, teamwork, and making a meaningful impact.

About youAs a Payroll Officer you will:
- Have experience working in a high-volume payroll environment, with a solid understanding of employment legislation and various employment agreements.
- Demonstrate accuracy and efficiency in processing payroll transactions and maintaining up-to-date records.
- Collaborate confidently across departments to resolve payroll queries and ensure compliance with internal policies.
- Be proficient in payroll systems such as AMS Leader and Actor, with strong data analysis and problem‑solving skills.
- Show excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive under time pressures while communicating effectively
