ResponsibilitiesThe Medication Assistant (MA) serves as caregiver who provides resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance to assigned residents under the supervision of a charge nurse.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide age-appropriate care related to physical and psychological needs per plan of care
- Assist with basic health care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing/undressing, recording vital signs
- Assist with transfers, repositioning, walking using proper techniques and equipment
- Provide range of motion and passive exercises
- Assist with food preparation and dining; support meals and snacks as appropriate
- Administer prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse within state scope of practice
- Document care outcomes, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary information
- Communicate changing conditions and care-related concerns to the charge nurse
- Collect non-invasive body fluid specimens and gather vital signs
- Provide housekeeping and laundry assistance to maintain clean, functional living areas
- Support wellness and recreational programs and encourage resident participation
- High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required
- Minimum age 18; prior clinical or nursing assistant experience preferred
- Yearly competency testing; 12 hours continuing education annually; maintain department certifications
- Valid driver's license and auto insurance if applicable
- State-specific CMA/CNA certifications and course requirements per state:
Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota - For all Good Samaritan Society locations: CMA or TMA certification as required by state; CNA certification typically prior to CMA/TMA
