examination is announced to supplement the existing employment list to fill four (4) current west jefferson vacancies in the department of jefferson protection and animal welfare service and future vacacnies as they occur.under direction, performs responsible, repetitive work which entails attending to animals confined in kennels; performs assignments promptly and efficiently as directed. Position is responsible for caring for animals, maintaining facility, and working with the public.

Employee observes animals for signs of illness and/or presence of disease and reports findings to appropriate personnel. Employee performs various duties related to the care of shelter animals, including cleaning of holding areas, assuring the animals receive food, water and provide humane handling when an animal is moved. Administers vaccines and micro-chip under the supervision of the veterinarians, assist customers who are seeking lost pets, and those interested in adopting.

Assists in maintaining electronic animal inventory system; i.e., entering medical information, writing behavioral descriptions, taking & uploading photographs, etc. Performs related work as required.

this position requires rotating shift work, which includes weekends and holidays. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the parish president or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of jefferson parish.

• certified animal euthanasia technician (caet) certification issued by the louisiana board of veterinary medicine.
• minimum age of 18 years.
• high school diploma or equivalency certificate.
