Job Description
Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Surgical Technician in the Surgery department. Here, you will be primarily responsible for maintaining the sterile field while being constantly vigilant that all team members adhere to aseptic technique and sterility. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity and requires you to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Under the supervision of the Supervisor and Director of Surgical Services and the direction of the registered nurse, you participate in the intraoperative care of a patient in Surgery, following the philosophy, mission, and vision of Ingalls Hospital and adhering to all corporate compliance requirements.
- Compassionately give personal patient care and provide comfort and well‑being to the surgical patient.
- Anticipate the needs of surgeons, passing instruments and providing sterile items efficiently.
- Perform as an assistant by holding instruments as directed by the physician.
- Prepare the procedure room, checking non‑sterile equipment to ensure proper working order.
- Participate in positioning of patients for procedures.
- Post‑op responsibilities include cleaning the procedure room, removing all contaminated instruments, linen, and garbage, and disposing of all blood and body fluids using the Biohaz process.
- Provide equipment and supplies based on patient/procedure needs.
- Adhere to Infection Control Principles.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Completion of Surgical Technologist Program.
- Certification as a CST from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting within six months of hire.
- Minimum of one year experience as a CST in an acute care hospital.
- GI Tech experience.

Full‑Time (0.9) - Shift: Days (12‑hour shifts) with on‑call requirement.

The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. The pay range is based on a full‑time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
