Under the direction and supervision of the Paper SPS and Technical Manager, this position is primarily responsible for driving the execution of process improvement projects that are deemed viable opportunities. This position is primarily accountable for achieving stated productivity goals related to process improvement initiatives.
This position works closely with all levels of the Hartsville Paper Complex Team including hourly associates and members of management ensuring that focused/continuous improvement activities are aligned with the overall productivity goals of the complex.
The job responsibilities include SPS, SWFL productivity execution, and capital tracking.
This position will interface with PMG Division level resources as needed to provide support. Additionally, this position may be called upon to provide support/leadership to other manufacturing facilities especially those within the Paper and Fiber Supply locations.
What you’ll be doing:
Responsible for personal commitment to safety, working toward an injury-free environment. Must engage in and be supportive of the Hartsville Paper Complex Safety culture and risk reduction activities.Take a leadership role in guiding, training, supporting, and communicating focused/continuous improvement activities at all levels within the plant especially as related to Standard Work for Leaders and Sonoco Performance Systems (SPS) rollout.Must be highly proficient with financials behind unit cost/productivity/SPS losses and be able to direct project activity to effectively achieve sustained improvements within these metrics.Guide/mentor process engineers and management trainees in focused improvement activities around cost reduction and quality improvements.Utilize the Process Engineer Development Program and Management Trainee Guidelines as part of their performance management process.The candidate must be an expert in Six Sigma/DMAIC/Lean methodology and be able to coach/guide process engineers in each one of these areas.Lead or actively support any pillar within SPS. This position may require active participation on other CI teams as well. This position needs to be able to mentor new SPS team leaders.Works closely with operators/production leaders and maintenance associates to identify areas of improvement and involves associates in daily problem recognition and resolution through sustainable RCA and CA/PA process systems.Tracks project activity in detail and can present improvement opportunities and resolution strategies in a clear manner to all plant levels (including upper management).Actively involved with improvement of processes involving raw material quality and management of vendors of supplies and materials.Maintain continuous communication with the SPS Specialists, Plant Manager and Regional Manager on the progress of focused improvement activities. Should be able to recognize gaps and implement actions to achieve plan.Work closely with Operating Excellence group to stay updated with all Six Sigma/DMAIC/SPS tools that should be communicated/taught to Pillar teams and CI leaders.Responsible to stay informed (and implement if applicable) of benchmarking opportunities presented by other mills. Will also be responsible for communicating benchmarking opportunities that are a result of Hartsville’s successes.Work with Maintenance Department to mentor/guide/lead focused improvement activities dedicated to reducing maintenance costs and improving reliability.Assist in development of yearly budgets for productivity improvements.Productivity tracking system administrator.Manage effective allocation of resources to maximize improvement opportunities.Responsible for developing and managing the capital budget for the Hartsville Paper Complex including Power, cylinder corrugating, central shops and logistics.Performs other related duties as assigned which are related to the safe, effective, profitable operations of all facilities within the responsibility of the PMG SE Regional Manufacturing Manager.This position is located in Hartsville, SC.
