An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist/Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly Histology team for 22.5 hours per week (0.6 WTE).

The Pathology departments at University Hospitals North Tees and Hartlepool (NTH) and South Tees Hospitals (STH) are working collaboratively to develop a joint service called Tees Valley Pathology (TVP) with services being delivered on all hospital sites.

Requirements
  • HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with appropriate experience, knowledge and skills.
  • For Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band
    6) roles: HCPC state registered and hold an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Histopathology.
  • For newly qualified HCPC candidates: may be considered for employment at Registered Biomedical Scientist (Band
    5) level depending on qualification and experience.
Responsibilities
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot highly complex equipment, documenting all procedures in accordance with Trust Standing Financial Orders.
  • Participate in allocated work rota’s and carry out laboratory techniques following Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Prioritise own work to produce timely and accurate results, contributing to optimal patient care.
  • Monitor quality control, take remedial action as needed, and report findings to senior staff.
  • Participate in the critical evaluation of new equipment/procedures and investigate poorly performing laboratory methods, reporting findings to the line manager.
  • Ensure good stock control, ordering new stock efficiently, and maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of methods in use within Histology.
  • Record and maintain all evaluations, data, and records in compliance with accreditation providers’ standards.
  • Process category A patient tissue samples and record associated clinical details as delegated by the consultant Histopathologist.
  • Provide training and development support to Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Medical Laboratory Assistants and other staff grades as per departmental policy.
  • Work autonomously under the direction of the Pathology Management Team and Senior Biomedical Scientists.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust now form University Hospitals Tees, and you may be required to work at any site across both Trusts.
