Summary
This position is located at a VA White River Junction facility. The work involves constructing, altering, maintaining, and repairing buildings, structures, partitions, panels, tool cabinets, bookcases, work benches, and other items using wood, wood substitutes, and composite building materials.

EXPERIENCE:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of this position. Evidence demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
SCREEN‑OUT ELEMENT:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen‑out element – usually question 1 in the online questionnaire. Those who meet the minimal requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and eliminated. Eligible applicants are then rated against the remaining Job Elements:
Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair;
Interpret Instructions and Specifications (including blueprint reading);
Materials Measurement and Layout;
Technical Practices;
Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps). Volunteer work builds competencies and may be credited. A full year of work is considered 35‑40 hours per week; part‑time experience is credited based on actual time spent in appropriate activities. Applicants requesting credit must clearly indicate the nature of duties, responsibilities, and hours worked each week.
- Setting up and operating a wide variety of woodworking machines and tools.
- Assembling items using various joining techniques such as miters, rabbets, dados, biscuit, and mortise‑and‑tenon, and securing wood pieces, veneers, and countertops with glues and adhesives.
- Performing related duties as assigned.
- Constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying wood and wood‑substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness; constructing and repairing building frames, rafters, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, and miscellaneous items such as workbenches, countertops, bookcases, equipment cabinets, computer consoles, and items requiring limited decorative trim and molding.
- Interpreting drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine layout and work sequences.

Work performed in wood shops and at job sites; standing for extended periods while operating machinery; considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping; handling heavy materials and lifting up to 40 pounds. - Working conditions:
Exposure to moderate/higher noise levels, sawdust, glue fumes, cuts, bruises, potential weather hazards, ladder and scaffold work, confined spaces; protective clothing and devices required.
