Overview
Role Snapshot
To support a congressionally mandated VA dental pilot program, the General Dentist will provide comprehensive dental care to Veterans using a VA-operated mobile dental clinic serving rural communities in Vermont and surrounding areas. White River Junction, VT (Mobile Clinic – regional travel required).
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive dental examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning for adult Veterans.
- Deliver phased dental care including preventive, restorative, oral surgery, endodontic, prosthodontic, periodontal, and maintenance services within scope of licensure.
- Treat acute dental conditions such as infections or trauma and manage post-operative care.
- Supervise dental hygienists and dental assistants in accordance with state dental board regulations.
- Verify dental eligibility and render Class III and Class VI eligibility determinations per VA regulations.
- Document all care in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR/Dental EHR) on the day of treatment.
- Participate in peer reviews, quality assurance activities, and VA performance evaluations (FPPE/OPPE).
- Operate and drive a VA mobile dental clinic in compliance with VA Directive 0637.
- Adhere to all VA infection control, HIPAA, privacy, and Joint Commission standards.
- Participate in required VA training, onboarding, and credentialing activities.
- DDS or DMD from an ADA/CODA-accredited dental school.
- Passed National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE).
- Current, full, unrestricted license to practice dentistry in Vermont.
- Minimum 3 years of full-time clinical dentistry experience.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (AHA-approved).
- Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ability to operate a mobile dental clinic.
- Ability to complete VA credentialing, privileging, background checks, and medical screening requirements.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a VA National Provider Identifier (NPI) and DEA registration.
