Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.
Responsibilities- Perform licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned.
- Under supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher, perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs; continue to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Diesel steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair various truck equipment as listed above (including air conditioning systems).
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges; road test vehicles to verify functionality.
- Identify problems, evaluate information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
- Work with and listen to clients to assess needs; provide information, assistance, and solutions to satisfy expectations.
- Manage concurrent tasks with prioritization of work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards and upload RO photos, parts used, and findings using an iOS device and TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
- Operate with a high degree of independence and manage daily schedule; maintain productivity within standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.
- Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
- Ensure all work complies with organizational safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the company-issued service truck and conduct safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience; alternative combinations of degree/certification or 5 years’ related experience may apply.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
- Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
- Must pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical; or submit a valid DOT medical card with specified expiration conditions.
- Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority requirements.
- Safe driving record with valid driver’s license; ability to obtain and maintain Driver Qualification File.
