- Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
- Updated first aid/CPR training approved by the Connecticut State Department of Education.
- Knowledge and background in basketball and experience coaching middle‑school athletes.
Carry out the aims and objectives of the sports program. Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary to achieve individual and team success while fostering values of discipline, sportsmanship, and self‑esteem.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and mutual respect.
- Motivate and inspire middle‑school student‑athletes to reach their full potential through skill development, effort, and personal growth.
- Design and implement practices that build fundamental basketball skills, game awareness, and a love for the sport.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, reinforcing the importance of being a student first by upholding high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Collaborate with teachers, families, and administrators to ensure players meet academic and conduct standards required for participation.
- Lay the groundwork for success at the high‑school level and beyond by teaching responsibility, perseverance, and leadership on and off the court.
- Manage the issuance, collection, and storage of all equipment.
- Assist in preparation for scheduled sport events and practices and adhere to facility times.
- Ensure the safety and provide supervision of athletes in all athletic work areas.
- Be responsible for the actions and conduct of the athletes when they are under his/her jurisdiction.
- Be responsible for the general health and welfare of students in his/her sport and give appropriate attention to athletes who are injured, ill, or otherwise incapacitated.
- Contribute to a school culture of healthy competition and community pride.
- Demonstrate professionalism, organization, and effective communication with players, parents, and the school community.
