The State of Connecticut , Department of Aging and Disability Services (ADS), Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS) is seeking dedicated and skilled Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team. In this vital role, you will ensure clear communication and equal access to services for individuals across Connecticut.

Position Highlights
  • Schedule:

    Monday - Friday
  • Hours:

    Full-time, 40 hours per week, First Shift
  • Location:

    Office assignment will be determined in partnership with the selected candidate, based on the locations listed above. Please note this role will include regular statewide travel.
  • NOTE:

    The interview process will require proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
Travel Requirement

This position requires regular statewide travel. Mileage reimbursement is available. Upon request a state vehicle may be available, making it easier for you to focus on what matters most, helping people!

In This Role You Will
  • Provide in-person interpretation services at client sites and partner organizations throughout the state
  • Support diverse communities by facilitating accurate and effective communication
  • Attend staff meetings and similar events at the assigned ADS office

The Mission of the Department of Aging and Disability Services (ADS) is to maximize opportunities for the independence and well-being of people with disabilities and older adults in Connecticut.

Our programs, policies and practices are designed to:

  • Deliver aging and disability services responsive to the needs of Connecticut citizens
  • Provide leadership on aging and disability issues statewide
  • Provide and coordinate aging and disability programs and services in the areas of employment, education, independent living, accessibility and advocacy
  • Advocate for the rights of Connecticut residents with disabilities and older adults
  • Serve as a resource on aging and disability issues at the state level

The Bureau of Rehabilitation Services (BRS), a division of the Department of Aging and Disability Services (ADS), assists individuals with significant physical and/or mental disabilities in preparing for, securing, maintaining, or advancing in employment. BRS is dedicated to fostering opportunities that support individuals with disabilities in gaining competitive employment.

Minimum Qualifications - General Experience

Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain a National Interpreting Certification and be a registered Interpreter with the State of Connecticut in accordance with Sec. 46a-33a of the Connecticut General Statutes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Fluent in American Sign Language
  • Fluency in more than one interpreting modality
  • Experience in more than one interpreting setting
  • Experience communicating with internal and external stake holders
  • Experience working or interpreting in a Vocational Rehabilitation program
  • Experience managing conflicts with vendors or coworkers
Special Requirements
  • Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license. At the time of appointment candidates may be required to have a motor vehicle driving history satisfactory to the Commissioner or Commissioner's designee.
  • Incumbents in this class will be required to travel.
