Position Overview

, Department of Agriculture (DoAg) is seeking an Agriculture Marketing and Inspection Representative 1 (AMIR
1) to join the Bureau of Agricultural Development and Resource Conservation. The role involves developing, evaluating, and providing continuity for programs that positively impact Connecticut farmers through administration of state and federal initiatives.
- Schedule:
Full‑Time (40 Hours), First Shift (7:30 A.M.‑4:00 P.M.), Monday‑Friday. Hybrid position (telework and office/on‑site). - Location:
450 Columbus Blvd, Hartford, CT.
- Oversee the administration, implementation, and reporting of multiple federally funded grant programs in food access, market access for farmers, and farmland access.
- Manage and monitor program outcomes for the Connecticut Farm Link program, including website, contracts, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as a principal point of contact for beginning farmers and urban farmers, providing information on available programs and facilitating connections to appropriate services.
- Provide coordination and support to agency‑administered and statutorily authorized boards, councils, commissions, and other stakeholder working groups or committees.
The Department of Agriculture’s mission is to foster a healthy economic, environmental, and social climate for agriculture by developing, promoting, and regulating agricultural businesses; protecting agricultural resources; enforcing animal laws; and promoting public understanding of Connecticut agriculture. The Bureau of Agricultural Development and Resource Conservation works to expand relationships, encourage consumption of CT farm products, and preserve farmland and farmland soils through programs that enable agribusiness to expand markets and achieve sustainability.
Knowledge,Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of production, marketing, research development, or processing of agricultural businesses or commodities.
- Understanding of wholesale and retail marketing practices, business development strategies, and relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
- Knowledge of state and federal legislative processes and plant/animal disease control methods.
- Inspection and investigation methods and techniques.
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to utilize computer software.
Five (5) years of experience in the marketing, research, development, production, or inspection of agricultural commodities or businesses.
Minimum Qualifications – Substitutions Allowed- College training in agriculture or a closely related field may be substituted for the general experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling one-half (½) year of experience, up to a maximum of four (4) years for a bachelor’s degree.
- Successful completion of a Connecticut Careers Trainee program approved by the Department of Administrative Services may be substituted for the general experience.
- Experience administering programs, coordinating partners or subcontractors, achieving data‑driven outcomes, and program evaluation.
- Experience coordinating and facilitating events, meetings, workshops, review panels, or trainings.
- Experience managing grant programs as a grantor.
- Experience working with farms, including urban and beginning farmers.
- Experience with agribusiness development or technical assistance.
- Incumbent may be required to travel.
- Incumbent may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
Incumbents may be required to lift heavy objects; may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions; and may be exposed to some risk of injury from animals.
