Through the inspection of elevators, escalators, ski-lifts and other lifting devices you will be making a difference every day. There are approximately 16,000 existing devices and 400 new devices each year that our team is responsible for inspecting and issuing citations where the device is out of compliance.
PositionDetails
You will primarily work from home, with varying daily field assignments, and may be required to report to the central office at 450 Columbus Boulevard, Hartford, CT. This position is full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with anticipated statewide travel.
Responsibilities- Inspecting construction, installation, alteration and operation of existing elevators, escalators, and ski lifts
- Witnessing full load safety and hydraulic pressure tests on elevators
- Investigating accidents and complaints involving lifting devices
- Inspecting and recommending shutdown of lifting devices due to code safety violations and unsafe conditions
- Reviewing new construction scope of work plans
- Conducting new acceptance inspections on newly installed elevators
- Testifying at hearings and in court
- Gathering information and writing reports
- Reviewing blueprints
- Responding to questions from architects, engineers, consultants, building owners, managers, elevator contractors and the public regarding various building and engineering codes
- Participating in building job code meetings with contractors
- Collecting overdue fees for elevator operating certificates
- Assisting in training of new Elevator Inspectors
- Inspecting amusement parks and carnival rides
- Assisting in the development of seminars on code standards
- Performing related duties as required
General
Experience:
Incumbents must possess at the time of employment and maintain during employment a license as an Unlimited Elevator Journeyperson from the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
- Experience with electrical, fire alarm and building codes
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook
- Experience inspecting, adjusting and maintaining installed freight and passenger elevators and escalators
- Experience using smart phone and other mobile devices for reporting
- Experience providing oral and written instructions
- Incumbents in this class will be required to travel
- Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license
Incumbents in this class will be required to climb in and onto elevator cars and may risk injury from working with electrical wiring and may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions
