The successful Advanced Practitioner (APP) supports patient care from the point of admission to discharge on the service and step‑down teams.
This cardiac surgical APP is the cornerstone of patient care, handles a wide variety of case types in all stages of illness, comprehensive physical assessments, interpretation of diagnostic results, establishing complex plans of care, and managing cardiac surgical emergencies. Extensive training and supervision are provided to the APPs for skills such as chest tubes, feeding tubes, and removal of pacer wires.

About The Opportunity- As a vital member of the Cardiac Surgery team, the APP will deliver expert, compassionate care to patients in our 18‑bed Cardiac Surgery intensive care unit (ICU), step‑down unit, and floor settings.
Responsibilities include: - Managed preoperative and postoperative care for cardiac surgery patients.
- Perform bedside procedures including central venous and arterial line placement, intra‑aortic balloon pump removal, etc.
- Provide care for patients undergoing advanced procedures, including heart transplants, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), mechanical circulatory support, and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, developing individualized care plans, and closely monitoring progress.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, fostering a culture of teamwork and concise communication to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Support seamless transitions of care between the ICU, step‑down, and floor settings.
- Provide patient and family education, ensuring a clear understanding of the surgical process and recovery journey.
- Schedule:
Full‑time employment includes day/night/weekend/holiday rotation. Permanent night positions are available. Premium night/weekend differentials offered.

QualificationsCertified Physician Assistant (PA‑C) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (APRN), preferably with 1+ years of relevant experience in Cardiac Surgery, critical care, or surgical settings. New graduates are welcome to apply. Eligible for licensure in the state of Connecticut. Strong clinical, organizational, and communication skills.
