HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic - Evenings at Connecticut Children’s
Seeking to fill this position in early October, 2025. Performs maintenance and repairs for heating (hot water and steam boilers, other pressure vessels), ventilating, air conditioning (cooling towers, chillers, DX units, air compressors), water treatment, humidification and hot water systems, including both pneumatic and DDC controls.
Responsibilities- Perform all functions related to air conditioning and refrigeration systems, including servicing and repairing gas refrigerant systems, integrated piping and hardware; follow established procedures.
- Communicate via telephone, written, or verbal work orders with all employee levels in the Support Service department and with clients, patients and customers.
- Monitor HVAC systems and operations.
- Ensure routine preventive maintenance is performed per established schedules: check, repair or replace valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, coils, tube bundles, pipes, heat exchangers and other components.
- Read, interpret and follow mechanical and electrical engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and manufacturers’ installation and maintenance directions for HVAC equipment and boilers and associated electrical equipment.
- Estimate labor and material costs for projects; submit requisitions for materials.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and local building codes.
- Respond to fire and disaster drills as assigned.
- Attend all department/hospital in‑service orientations and other meetings as required.
- Maintain ARAMARK and CCMC policies, procedures and objectives for quality assurance and safety; perform all work in accordance with ARAMARK CCMC and regulatory safety procedures including NFPA, EPA, OSHA, JCAHO, state, country and local agencies.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Demonstrate support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with CCMC standards.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with refrigerants and types required.
- Minimum S‑2 or D‑2 license; S‑1 license preferred.
- Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Training per CFR required annually for CCMC school personnel.
- CT driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- Knowledge of oxy/acetylene welding required; knowledge of Johnson Control Systems (Medasys) preferred.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in schedule, work assignments, and environment, including weekends, holidays and on‑call hours.
- Display a polite, spirit‑of‑service attitude toward customers and coworkers.
- Maintain a friendly, efficient and responsive attitude toward clients, patients and customers while performing duties.
- Work closely with team members on multiple assignments to meet deadlines under minimal supervision.
- Seek solutions to operational barriers and contribute to continuous quality improvement.
- Conform to all safety policies and procedures in effect.
