Position: Agency Legal Director (Hybrid) - #260202-8539MP-001

Overview

The State of Connecticut, Department of Consumer Protection (DCP), is accepting applications for the Agency Legal Director in Hartford, CT. The position offers professional growth opportunities and a healthy work/life balance.

Location:

450 Columbus Blvd, Hartford, CT. Full time, 40 hours/week. First shift, Monday through Friday; may include nights and weekends. Hybrid schedule.

THE ROLE:

Serve as chief legal officer for the agency and primary legal advisor to the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners. Direct, manage, and supervise the agency s legal division, including attorneys and support staff. Provide legal guidance on consumer protection laws, enforcement actions, investigations, and compliance matters. Advise agency leadership on statutory authority, regulatory interpretation, risk management, and policy development. Oversee legal strategy for administrative proceedings, cases, and hearings.

Coordinate litigation strategy and legal positions with the Office of the Attorney General. Draft, review, and approve legal documents, including regulations, policies, contracts, MOUs, and guidance documents. Support development and execution of the agency s legislative strategy. Serve as a liaison to the Office of the Governor and the Office of the Attorney General on legal and policy matters. Ensure agency compliance with ethics, FOIA, open meetings, and related requirements.

Identify legal risks and emerging issues affecting agency programs and enforcement priorities. Develop legal training, guidance, and internal policies for agency staff and leadership. Perform other related duties as assigned.
