Overview
Underwriting Specialist, Middle Market Solutions at Arch Insurance Group Inc. The Underwriter drives profitable growth through evaluation and underwriting of new and renewal accounts, collaborating with producers to negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions while managing capacity and ensuring compliance with governance frameworks and underwriting guidelines. Position can be hybrid in Boston or Hartford, or remote in New England states plus upstate New York.
This is a market-facing role expected to meet with brokers in the territory.
- Underwrite profitable business
- Underwrite new and renewal accounts to meet top and bottom line targets
- Negotiate price and terms and conditions with producers
- Proactively manage capacity
- Underwrite and evaluate Natural Catastrophe Accumulation; understand catastrophe modeling and interpretation of scenarios for relevant Lines of Business
- Underwriting Approach and Compliance
- Underwrite in line with LoB governance framework – Underwriting Authorities, Guidelines, Rules and Principles
- Ensure contract certainty at inception
- Utilize global pricing tools
- Place and bind FAC Reinsurance prior to policy inception
- Policy Documentation and Administration
- Ensure accurate policy documentation issued to producers or ensure producer responsibility for documentation
- File maintenance and ongoing management of risk files
- Support policy administration and credit control processes
- Contribute to development and execution of regional Underwriting strategy for LoB
- Train, develop and coach less experienced staff
- A minimum of 3+ years of direct underwriting experience
- Specialized expert understanding of sub-LoB products and portfolio
- Established broker relationships at peer group level
- Understanding of regional/local LoB insurance markets and competitor landscape, including global elements
- Preferably a degree in Economics, Finance, Insurance Management, or Business Administration
- Professional insurance qualification (e.g., CPCU) is a plus
