Sr. Database Engineer

Our client is seeking an experienced professional to drive the evolution of their Enterprise Tech Solutions by architecting and maintaining sophisticated database environments. This position is pivotal to managing enterprise data, ensuring high availability, and implementing cutting-edge solutions across hybrid technology landscapes.

Core Responsibilities:

• Guide the modernization of mainframe database architectures, leveraging deep IMS/DB2 expertise alongside emerging cloud and AI technologies.
• Optimize and maintain IMS/DB2 environments focusing on performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Design migration strategies for mainframe databases to cloud platforms and evaluate hybrid cloud-mainframe architectures.
• Support AI integration in database monitoring, error interpretation, and knowledge transfer initiatives.

Required Skills:

• 7-9 years of database/data management experience.
• 5 years of IMS/DB2 database administration and performance tuning experience.
• Strong understanding of mainframe architecture and z/OS environments.
• Proficiency in database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Knowledge of SQL optimization and database design principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, etc.).
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and tools.
• Experience with database migration tools and methodologies.
• Knowledge of modern data architecture patterns and best practices.
• Understanding of Dev Ops practices and CI/CD pipelines.

Leadership & Influence:

• Communicate complex database concepts in business-friendly language.
• Lead decisively in ambiguous situations and inspire team collaboration.

Strategic & Business Acumen:

• Determine database architecture strategies and ensure system quality and readiness.
• Utilize data-driven approaches to solve complex database challenges.

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or equivalent experience plus 6 years of database engineering experience.
