Healthcare Nursing, Physical Therapy
The Physical Therapist plans and administers prescribed treatment for patients with musculoskeletal, neurological, and orthopedic conditions to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability. Reviews physician referrals, medical records, and patient condition to determine treatment needs. Evaluations include testing strength, motor control, sensory function, mobility, and cardiopulmonary efficiency, with findings used to design or revise individualized programs.
Treatment may involve manual exercises, therapeutic activities, functional training, patient education, and instruction in assistive device use. Interventions can include modalities and advanced manual therapy techniques based on osteopathic and movement science principles. Patient progress is monitored and documented in the EMR, with treatments adjusted to achieve optimal outcomes.
The therapist educates patients and families in home exercise and self-management strategies to extend benefits beyond the clinic. Collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary providers ensures integration of therapy into the overall care plan. As part of the team, the therapist may direct the work of assistants, aides, or students to maintain high standards of care.
Additional duties may include staff education, community outreach, and research initiatives. The therapist may deliver lectures, contribute to publications, or support program development. In multi-provider settings, they may focus on complex manual or functional treatments while supervising others, and may serve in leadership roles such as Clinical Lead to coordinate care and quality.
