Job DescriptionInterventional Radiology Technologist is accountable to the Radiology Lead Technologist, Assistant Manager, and Manager. Responsible for operation of the hybrid fluoroscopy Radiologic equipment along with general radiologic equipment. Operates equipment, performing a variety of procedures on pediatric patients applying prescribed ionizing radiation for the sole purpose of producing diagnostic quality images. Responsible for coverage at off-site locations as needed.
ResponsibilitiesResponsible for performing routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic technical procedures at a level that does not require constant supervision of technical detail. The technologist has a constant awareness of infection control standards, the importance of sterility and an acute awareness of patient care protocols. Operates under the supervision of a physician.
- Performs all routine radiographic procedures according to department standards, protocols and guidelines required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the State of Connecticut.
- Reviews and assesses the overall quality of images taken.
- Sterile technique policies and practices are followed and monitored.
- Maintains adequate stock levels and personal protection equipment.
- Actively participates in the maintenance of stock.
- Maintains professionalism in line with organization’s core values and behaviors.
- Displays accuracy in proper EPIC documentation.
- Displays accuracy in image annotation and laterality marking.
- Positions properly for procedure.
- Records fluoroscopy times according to regulatory guidelines.
- Wears radiation badge accordingly.
- Wears appropriate PPE.
- Guides non radiology personnel in safe radiation practices.
- Performs equipment quality assurance and records accordingly.
- Assists in training of staff.
- Successfully completes any continuing education, staff meetings and training.
- Follows CHAMP safety behaviors and upholds Connecticut Children’s Code of Conduct.
- Other assigned duties as needed.
Minimum one year experience as a Radiologic Technologist practicing in Pediatrics is required.
License and/or Certification
- Required: Registered as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology; ARRT (R) in good standing.
- Current State of Connecticut Radiographer License.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of date of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Preferred: Experience in biplane fluoroscopy equipment is strongly preferred.
- Experience in cardio‑vascular interventional radiology is strongly preferred.
- Job requires independent problem identification, abstract reasoning and adaptability to varied environments and information, and quick decision-making. A high degree of selective attention, discernment, perception, and/or concentration is necessary.
- Job requires legibility, speaking accuracy and logical sentence and paragraph organization. A working knowledge and familiarity with professional (medical) terms and definitions is required.
