Job Description
- Demonstrates knowledge of the organization mission, values, and goals and holds others accountable for their performance.
- Demonstrates knowledge of population-specific differences and needs of patients in populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice.
- Role models awareness of diversity equity and inclusion and role models with all interactions with patients/families and team members.
- CLINICAL PRACTICE
- Provide direct patient care up to 50% of scheduled hours.
- Demonstrates advanced clinical practice in pediatric occupational therapy and serves as a resource to all team members across all service delivery.
- Provides coaching regarding all clinical and non-clinical duties.
- Leads patient care teams and represents the department on hospital-wide and/or community-based committees.
- EDUCATION/RESEARCH
- Role models evidence based clinical care.
- Leads and supports team with identify and completing research endeavors.
- Identify opportunities for staff development.
- Partners with internal/external resources to implement action plans, measuring success with patient outcomes.
- Leads community education and outreach events.
- ADMINISTRATIVE
- Leads assigned staff within the Occupational Therapy department.
- Lead daily operations including team members schedules, clinical input to inpatient and outpatient scheduling.
- Provide input to operational and capital budgeting and help identify action steps to rectify variances.
- Demonstrates commitment to continuous quality improvement and leads endeavors to enhance safety, clinical care, and patient family experience.
- Supervise assigned staff; coach and hold team accountable to organization standards and complete annual performance appraisals of assigned staff.
- Assists management with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members.
- Assist with clinical education program.
- Graduate of an accredited program in Occupational Therapy – required;
Master’s degree or Doctoral Degree preferred. - Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pediatric occupational therapy relevant to the clinical practice of the assigned team members; demonstrate advanced pediatric occupational therapy clinical reasoning and decision making.
- LICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
- Current State of CT Occupational Therapy license – required.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support/CPR in adult child and infant – required or obtained in first six months of hire.
- KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED - KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Advanced Occupational Therapy clinical practice standards and theories.
- Scope of practice, billing and regulatory standards related to Occupational Therapy.
- SKILLS:
- Excellent Time Management, Organizational and Communication Skills.
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
- Computer proficiency in Windows environment.
- Beginning to intermediate skill in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- ABILITY TO:
- Work assigned off-shifts, including evenings, weekends & holidays and travel to multiple locations.
- Understand and interpret educational needs; determine training objectives; and to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training plans, curricula, and methodology.
- Provide expert care and consultation to patients/families, demonstrate clinical competencies within specialty area, and assess the competencies of others.
- Demonstrate all Connecticut Children’s Leadership competencies or potential to do so.
- Assess performance of assigned team members both clinical and behavioral via performance appraisal; and to serve as a coach, mentor, or preceptor.
- Utilize independent judgment to resolve problems and make decisions on routine managerial matters on assigned shift.
- Work Environment: Outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation services.
