Job Description

Accountable to the Diagnostic Radiology Lead Technologist, Assistant Manager of Radiology, and Manager. Operates general, fluoroscopic and portable radiographic equipment to perform a variety of radiology examinations/procedures on pediatric inpatients/outpatients. Applies prescribed ionizing radiation for the sole purpose of producing diagnostic quality images under the supervision of a Physician.

Responsibilities
  • Assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy and appropriateness. Involve patient/parent/and caregiver in care and exam/procedure.
  • Demonstrate age‑related competency and cultural sensitivity. Introduce self and role, explain procedure thoroughly to patient or parent before performing the procedure. Perform radiologic exams/procedures. Allow time for and encourage questions. Provide support and effective communications to other members of the department and healthcare team. Work efficiently as a team member. Consult with physicians, RNs and other technologists to provide quality imaging services.
  • Adhere to a culture of safety. Wash hands and sanitize equipment as directed.
  • Assure timeliness and accuracy when performing requested exams. Perform radiologic exams per protocol. Notify the appropriate ordering provider of recommended changes to an ordered exam. Provide support to other modalities within the department as required.
  • Perform diagnostic exams for all areas supported by the department of Radiology including the ED, OR, onsite and off‑site radiology locations. Ensure all images are of excellent diagnostic quality. Images will include appropriate patient demographics, positioning, technique and laterality markers. In accordance with ALARA principles, patients will be appropriately shielded and imaged to minimize radiation dose.
  • Educate and mentor radiologic skills of new technologists and students. Evaluate clinical and technical proficiency.
  • Utilize information technology systems associated with the role. Assure that images and documentation are complete and accurate in the patient medical record. Adhere to all hospital and department policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.
  • Coordinate equipment service as required.
  • May be called upon to cover nights, evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays. Rotate shifts and scheduled on‑call responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with the organizational standards. Demonstrate exemplary customer service.
  • Practice within the scope of the state of CT Radiologic license and ARRT (R) certification.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications



Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Graduate of Radiologic Technologist program accredited by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

License and/or Certification

Required:

  • Current State of Connecticut Radiographer License; new graduates given 90 days to obtain the license according to Connecticut Statutes 20‑74bb(f).
  • Registered as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT(R)); new graduates given up to 90 days to become ARRT(R) with documentation of program completion.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
