Job Description
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse as part of an inpatient/hospital unit, performs a variety of routine direct patient care, environmental and administrative support activities to promote the health, safety and comfort of patients and families. All patient care and support activities are completed in accordance with CCMC and unit policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Direct Patient Care – Provide direct patient care that addresses the population‑specific needs of the patients on the unit. Activities may include assisting patients with feedings and personal care, obtaining vital signs, testing specimens, transporting patients, and assisting with admissions and discharges. Demonstrate awareness of safety needs, basic medical terminology, infection control, risk management and environment of care policies.
- Documentation – Accurately document patient information on appropriate forms, demonstrating basic data entry and data retrieval competency in electronic patient records and/or patient supply systems.
- Unit Support Activities – Maintain appropriate inventories of unit supplies, clean and maintain unit equipment, perform quality control checks on equipment, assist with miscellaneous errands and transportation of medication, and complete routine clerical tasks.
- Population Knowledge – Demonstrate knowledge of population‑specific differences and needs of patients from neonate through adolescence and apply them to practice. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co‑workers.
- Organizational Support – Demonstrate support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with the CCMC STANDARDS.
- Education – High School diploma, GED equivalent, or current enrollment in an accredited ASN or BSN degree program for registered nurses, or higher level of education that would require a High School diploma.
- Experience – Successful completion or enrollment in a Certified Nurse’s Aide training program, completion of a Medical Assistant program, or EMT certification strongly preferred. Minimum of one year pediatric PCA experience preferred.
- Licensing and Certification – BLS/CPR, American Heart Association, required within 2 weeks of hire and must remain current at all times. Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification by State of Connecticut preferred. Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained thereafter.

Skills and Abilities
– Basic medical terminology, basic math and measurements, understanding of organization’s environment of care and infection control policies and procedures. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in English, and ability to communicate bilingually (Spanish/English) preferred. Understand and follow specific written and verbal instructions and procedures. Learn and demonstrate competency in standard clinical procedures within specialty area, according to established protocols.
Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards. Demonstrate competency in basic data entry/data retrieval in electronic patient records and/or patient supply systems utilized on unit.

MS6 is a very teamwork oriented, fast paced inpatient floor. We provide care to both medical and surgical patients, and specialize in the care of children with complex gastrointestinal and nephrology conditions as well as eating disorders. We work closely with both the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units as we are the next step for children graduating out of the ICU environment.
