Hartford Health Care invites applications for the Psychiatric Technician - Float role located in the HH Terry Building (10044). The position follows an 11:15 p‑7:15 a.m. shift with an every‑other‑weekend rotation. This role is part of Connecticut’s most comprehensive healthcare network, supporting the Institute of Living’s mission to deliver high‑quality mental health care to patients and families.
Job SummaryUnder supervision and according to departmental policies, the Psychiatric Technician assists nurses in observing and monitoring patients’ behavior and physical condition. Responsibilities include basic patient care tasks—such as assisting with personal hygiene and daily living activities—according to nursing care plans. The Technician establishes therapeutic relationships, encourages participation in recreational and therapeutic activities, and helps maintain a safe, therapeutic environment. The role reports to the Nurse Manager.
Qualifications- High School Graduate.
- Preferred experience in a psychiatric‑mental health setting or medical‑surgical health care environment.
- Preferred experience with specialty populations (e.g., geriatrics or children and adolescents).
- Strong communication skills required.
- Successful completion of CPR training and crisis intervention training within 3 months of hire.
