Introduction

The Department of Consumer Protection invites qualified agency employees to apply for the position of Consumer Protection Drug Control Principal Agent with the Drug Control Division in Hartford. The Drug Control Division oversees compliance and enforcement of all laws and regulations concerning the sale and distribution of drugs within Connecticut. The division administers the state’s Prescription Monitoring Program, including pharmacy inspections, auditing, investigations of healthcare professionals for improper prescription, diversion, and misuse of controlled substances, and issuance of all license types associated with the drug industry.

The Role

As a Consumer Protection Drug Control Principal Agent, duties include:

  • Direct staff and operations of the division at the direction of the Drug Control Division Director
  • Assist in the coordination, planning, and management of enforcement activities
  • Assist and provide input in the development of related policy
  • Interpret and administer pertinent laws
  • Evaluate staff and coordinate with the Human Resources Department as needed
  • Assist in preparation of division budget
  • Conduct presentations to law‑enforcement organizations and local government about hemp law
  • Assist in formulation of program goals and objectives and track progress
  • Evaluate and develop statistical and technical reports and other related data regarding drugs
  • Assist with the direction of cooperative efforts with law‑enforcement agencies to seize contraband drugs, arrest violators, and control illegal drug traffic
  • Determine whether criminal or administrative action is warranted for violation of drug laws by licensed professionals
  • Review reports and assist in writing reports
  • Attend meetings and conferences in place of the Director
  • Revise, update, and maintain Drug Control Division policies and procedures

The mission of the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) is to promote a fair and equitable marketplace and to ensure safe products and services for consumers. The department comprises several divisions, each of which oversees the industries it regulates.

Minimum Qualifications – General Experience

Three (3) years of experience in the monitoring, investigation, and control of drug, cosmetic, and device distribution systems.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience following inspection and investigative procedures
  • Experience collaborating with intradepartmental employees and other state agencies to perform joint investigations or inspections
  • Experience prioritizing projects with competing deadlines
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data
  • Experience managing the workflow of a team and delegating tasks
Special Requirements
  • Incumbent must possess and retain a license as a registered pharmacist in Connecticut.
  • May be required to work evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • May be required to travel.
  • Subject to selection standards pursuant to 7‑294‑a‑e and the regulations of the Municipal Police Training Academy.
Character Requirements

In addition to the checking of references and facts in the application, a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be conducted before persons are certified for permanent appointment.

Physical Requirements

Incumbents may be required to undergo a physical examination and must have normal color vision.

Working Conditions

Incumbents may be exposed to some danger of injury or probability of physical harm while performing the duties of the class.
