Overview

Duration: Full-Time (Unclassified Appointment in accordance with Section 3-13a of the Connecticut General Statutes)

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week

Its investment division executes sophisticated strategies across global markets and partners with top-tier asset managers to advance its mission. The organization is seeking an accomplished Investment Officer to play a key role in its real assets program—driving the sourcing, evaluation, and stewardship of investments in real estate, infrastructure, and natural resources while contributing to the broader private markets platform.

The

Investments Officer – Real Assets is responsible for:
  • Identifying, researching, and evaluating private markets investment opportunities across Real Estate, Infrastructure, and Natural Resources.
  • Conducting underwriting and analytical assessments of investment managers, funds, co-investments, and direct investment opportunities.
  • Remaining informed of market trends, capital markets conditions, and strategic opportunities relevant to real assets.
  • Assisting in the evaluation and selection of external investment managers and investment vehicles.
  • Performing detailed analysis of investment manager track records and assessing associated risk factors.
  • Preparing written and verbal reports, presentations, and recommendations for PIOs, the CIO, and the investments staff.
  • Supporting legal negotiations and documentation processes for new commitments.
  • Conducting ongoing monitoring of existing investments, including quarterly reporting, calls, annual meetings, and communication with managers.
  • Reviewing financial statements, performance reports, and organizational updates from external managers.
  • Preparing special reports, investment performance summaries, portfolio reviews, and other analytical materials.
  • Maintaining investment databases, spreadsheets, and tracking systems.
  • Identifying potential investment issues and recommending corrective actions.
  • Reviewing and preparing recommendations on legal matters such as amendments, consents, and waivers.
  • Coordinating investment operations and accounting matters with staff, custodians, advisors, and consultants.
  • Performing related duties as required.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Nine (9) years of experience working in investment management, pensions, endowments, or comparable environments performing private investment–related functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of institutional investment practices, including analysis of Real Estate, Infrastructure, and/or Natural Resources investments.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including financial modeling and performance/risk evaluation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for interaction with internal staff and external managers.
  • Understanding of legal documentation, contracts, amendments, and other investment-related materials.
Education
  • College training in finance, accounting, real estate, infrastructure, natural resources, economics, or related fields may substitute for experience (15 semester hours = ½ year), up to 4 years for a bachelor’s degree.
Preferred
  • CAIA, CFA, or relevant graduate degree.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary range: $123,000 - $180,000, Commensurate with experience and established internal guidelines.
