Job Overview
The Metropolitan District (MDC) is a non‑profit municipal corporation chartered by the Connecticut General Assembly in 1929 to provide potable water and sewerage services on a regional basis. MDC serves eight member municipalities — Bloomfield, East Hartford, Hartford, Newington, Rocky Hill, West Hartford, Wethersfield, and Windsor — and portions of other towns in the region. The Engineering Department is hiring a full‑time (37.5 hours/week) college intern for its summer internship program.

Duties- Assist Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, and Engineers with engineering tasks related to the preparation, review, and administration of water and sewer projects in various stages of design or construction.
- Assist with field tasks associated with planning, design, investigation, survey, and inspection of utility projects. Field work may also support other departments such as Operations & Maintenance.
- Assist with the preparation of documents and other related administrative tasks in support of projects at the planning, design, and construction stages.
- Assist with the preparation, tracking, and review of record plans and specifications, including coordination with other departments such as construction or survey.
- Assist other departments within Technical Services (e.g., GIS, Drafting, Engineering Design, Development Services) and outside the Department (e.g., Communications, Supplier Diversity and Outreach) to gain exposure to other engineering‑related activities needed to facilitate public utility projects.
The intern will also have exposure to public utility projects in construction.
QualificationsCollege student pursuing a BS in civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering, with a water/wastewater focus preferred. Recent graduates are also invited to apply. Computer skills required include AutoCAD, Microsoft Access, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
