Overview

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Hartford is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in Computer Engineering with a focus on Embedded Systems and their application to Internet of Things beginning August 2026. Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree, excellent potential and dedication to teaching, research, service, and professional activities.

Responsibilities
  • Ordinarily teach three courses per semester in engineering and engineering technology related to computer engineering (course load may change based on departmental needs).
  • Opportunity to teach innovative general education and interdisciplinary courses.
  • Maintain an active scholarly research agenda with peer‑reviewed publications, presentations, or other professional accomplishments for tenure and promotion.
  • Contribute to department, college, and university service, including advising students, supporting recruitment and retention, advising capstone projects, and participating in program accreditation.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence, fostering a vibrant campus community where every student, staff member, and faculty colleague feels valued and empowered.
Required Qualifications
  • An earned doctorate in Computer Engineering or related discipline is required; ABDs will be considered if the candidate documents a degree completion date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching computer engineering or related engineering disciplines at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated potential to build an independent research program related to embedded systems and their application to Internet of Things with undergraduate student involvement.
  • Demonstrated potential to educate and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in course and curriculum development.
  • Experience and/or demonstrated interest in student recruitment, retention, and career preparation.
  • Applied and/or professional experience in embedded systems and Internet of Things.
