Job Description

The Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position in Studio Arts with a concentration in Sculpture beginning August 2026. Candidates are expected to teach three courses per semester across all levels of Sculpture and at the first-year Foundations program as needed, maintain a professionally recognized artistic practice, oversee and develop the Sculpture concentration, and contribute consistent service to the university, school and department.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant will ordinarily teach courses across all levels of Sculpture and in the Hartford Art School first-year Foundations program as needed. An active artistic research agenda with peer-reviewed exhibitions, presentations, performances, publications or related accomplishments on a national level is expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department, college, and university is required, and includes oversight and development of the Sculpture concentration and facility, advising students, contributing to student recruitment and retention and consistent participation on assigned committees.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications materials should address and/or demonstrate the following:

  • Possession of an MFA in sculpture or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of two years college-level teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful teaching in the discipline of sculpture at the college level – beyond courses taught as a graduate student – in foundations/first year through advanced/capstone courses
  • Versatility and proficiency in historical, contemporary, conceptual, technical and material approaches to sculpture and sculptural practice
  • Successful recognized exhibition/professional record and promising trajectory
  • Experience aligned with sculpture concentration oversight/development as well as school and university service
  • Interdisciplinary, collaborative and collegial work style
  • Experience in community-building and recruitment activities
