- Hybrid role (combination of in-office/telework)
- Location:
450 Columbus Blvd, Hartford, CT - Incumbent will conduct on‑site visits to schools and training sites as needed.
- Act as an associate education consultant within the Bureau of Special Education.
- Apply knowledge of the IDEA and Connecticut special education law (Sections 10‑76a to 10‑76h).
- Conduct report and contract writing.
- Contribute to small group meetings and individual discussions through interpersonal skills and professional knowledge.
- Communicate complex information to a variety of stakeholders.
- Work with local education agencies to provide support, technical assistance, and accountability systems to achieve demonstrable outcomes of student success.
- Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships within a team‑based approach.
- Knowledge of the dispute resolution system.
- Knowledge of services and supports for students with disabilities in general education settings and across the continuum of placements.
- Knowledge of research‑based practices and processes for creating access to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities.
An earned advanced degree (Special Education, School Psychology, Speech/Language Pathology, Social Work OR Law) and at least five (5) years of professional experience in Special Education teaching and/or administration or a legal practice related to Special Education law.
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of experience and training as approved by the appropriate Board and/or appointing authority.
- Experience developing and delivering special education presentations to educators or parents.
- Experience interpreting State and Federal special education laws and providing written guidance to educators or parents.
- Experience working with individuals responsible for educational programs for special education children.
Incumbents may be required to possess an appropriate certificate issued by the State Board of Education.
