The psychiatrist must be comfortable treating diverse cultural populations and enjoy being part of dynamic multidisciplinary teams.

Starting annual salary: $32,500 for 10 hours/week and $78,000 for 24 hours/week, commensurate with experience. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is included. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range; actual placement depends on factors including qualifications, education, experience, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
Job SummaryThe Village for Families & Children seeks a board eligible or board-certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to support its mission of helping to build a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children. The psychiatrist should be comfortable treating diverse cultural populations and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary team. This role provides support to children and families in crisis who do not require hospital-level care, in a more nurturing and calming environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provides psychiatric assessment, evaluation, psychopharmacological follow-up, and monitoring of children’s treatment in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Works in a multidisciplinary team in the assessment, treatment and discharge of children served in the psychiatric Urgent Care Center.
- Back-up to psychiatric consultants and clinical staff as needed, including emergency situations.
- On-call responsibilities via telephone as part of a rotation of psychiatric staff for after-hours emergencies.
- Provides consultation and training to clinical staff as needed.
- Participates in interdisciplinary teams.
- Completes documentation as required by agency practices and licensing requirements.
- Provides supervision of psychiatric consultants and APRNs, and clerical staff in the Urgent Care Center.
- Continuous improvement and monitoring of implementation of psychiatric policies and procedures.
- Participates in the ongoing development of standards for clinical practice at the Village.
- Liaison to the medical community.
- Liaison to the psychiatric community.
- Liaison to the academic community.
- Education: MD/DO from an accredited institution.
- Licensure:
Connecticut state professional license, and Board eligible/Board certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
- Cultural competency to serve African American, Latino / Puerto Rican, and West Indian families.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Experience in ER/consultation liaison psychiatry is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines, including clinical and clerical staff.
- Excellent assessment, diagnostic and psychopharmacological treatment skills.
- Strong dedication to workplace mentorship, education, and team-based care.
- Flexible and able to multi-task.
- Proficient with word processing and spreadsheet applications. Solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows environment. Familiarity with Village-specific applications is a plus.
- Physically able to perform the essential functions of the position in a standard office environment, with or without reasonable accommodations, and able to interact with children and adolescents in a therapeutic environment without risk of injury.
