Job SummaryThe Dental Hygienist – Mobile Van/Float plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive oral health services to children and families in communities across Connecticut. This position combines clinical expertise with community outreach, supporting school-based, community-based, main site coverage, and mobile programs by providing care in a variety of settings. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, mobile environment, and is committed to providing exceptional care to diverse populations.
This position requires flexibility, travel, and the ability to adapt to different clinical sites across the state.
Clinical Care & Oral Health Service
Provide high-quality dental hygiene services in a mobile setting, including:
Prophylaxis, hand scaling, ultrasonic scaling, deep scaling/root planning.
Application of fluoride varnish and sealants.
Taking and processing digital dental radiographs (X-rays).
Providing oral hygiene education to patients and families.
Maintain strict infection control standards, including:
Sterilization and reprocessing of instruments.
Adherence to aseptic technique and PPE protocols.
Managing treatment area cleanliness and logbook compliance.
• Support dentists with four-handed dentistry techniques when required.
• Order and maintain dental supplies for mobile operations.
Mobile Van/Float OperationsTravel between school-based, main sites, community-based, and mobile dental sites across Connecticut as assigned.
Set up and break down the mobile dental van and clinic sites, ensuring equipment and materials are prepared and properly stored.
Collaborate with the Mobile Unit Driver to ensure safe transport, setup, and maintenance of the dental unit.
Assist with community events, health fairs, and outreach activities to promote oral health awareness and services.
Accurately complete electronic health records (EHR), including medical histories, charting, and patient documentation.
Adhere to state, federal, and organizational policies, including those related to infection control, confidentiality, and patient privacy.
Provide culturally competent care to diverse patient populations, addressing barriers to oral health access.
Build rapport with patients, families, school staff, and community organizations to foster trust and continuity of care.
Other related and relevant tasks or projects may be assigned
Graduate of an accredited Dental Hygiene program.
Current Connecticut Dental Hygienist license in good standing.
2+ years of dental hygiene experience preferred (community or school-based program experience a plus).
Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR), dental charting, and documentation.
Knowledge of dental procedures, infection control, and aseptic techniques.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to lift and transport dental equipment and supplies.
Comfortable working in mobile settings, including clinics, schools, and community sites.
Exposure to blood borne pathogens, requiring adherence to OSHA standards.
• Willingness to travel extensively across the state to support multiple sites.
Confidentiality & Compliance• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient records, health information, and organizational data, in accordance with HIPAA and CHC policies.
