Job Summary

To provide leadership and operational management of all nurses within the Harrow CAMHS team, and along with the other multi-disciplinary professional leads, support the team manager by ensuring team structures and policies are adhered to, as well as supporting the development of new ways of working. The post holder will work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.

They will utilise research skills for audit to support policy and service development; and undertake research within the area served by the service and of relevance to young people, their families and carers.

Main Duties of the Job

Contributing to highly specialist assessments and treatment of children and young people with complex and high‑risk mental health presentations including outreach work.

Supervise and manage the Enhanced Treatment Team within Harrow CAMHS, ensuring effective clinical care is provided in line with clinical governance and best practice, and meeting service line performance targets.

Support the development of new services and protocols as dictated by CAMHS Transformation plans and good practice.

Provide CAMHS assessment and intervention, supporting case formulation and treatment plans in line with best practice and evidence‑based interventions.

Provide advice and consultation to the team on nursing interventions with a focus on the most complex children and families. Manage operational and clinical supervision of Harrow CAMHS nurses and, where appropriate, other staff, with line management and clinical oversight of all job plans for Harrow CAMHS nurses.

Job Description Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive CAMHS assessments of children and young people, formulate and implement plans for treatment and/or management of the child/young person’s problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy across the full range of care settings.

Be responsible for implementing a range of interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, both individually and in synthesis with other teams.

Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.

Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.

Provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to children and young people’s formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications (Essential)

  • Degree/diploma in Nursing
  • Current professional registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) RMN.
  • Recent Safeguarding children training

Education and Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Research training
  • CYP IAPT training
  • MSC level training in a relevant specialist field or appropriate experience
  • Relevant management training/qualification
  • Post‑registration training in a treatment modality to diploma/degree standard as a minimum such as CBT

Experience (Essential)

  • CAMHS specific significant experience of working within a CAMHS team.
  • Experience of resolving complex admission and discharge delays
  • Experience of managing and supervising others in a clinical and performance management context including appraisals
  • Experience of developing operational protocols and managing duty cover systems
  • Experience of leading and developing multi‑partnership collaboration arrangements at a senior level
  • Experience of delivering training to colleagues

Experience (Desirable)

  • Experience of developing bespoke training packages for non‑CAMHS professionals
