Overview

The Trust is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Young People (CYP) to provide strategic and clinical leadership across its acute services. As a senior safeguarding professional within the integrated safeguarding team, the post holder will lead on the development, delivery and assurance of high-quality, statutory-compliant safeguarding arrangements for CYP. The role involves providing expert clinical advice, professional supervision and leadership to staff across the organisation, ensuring safeguarding practice is safe, effective and aligned with national guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) and CQC requirements.

The post holder will play a key role in driving a strong safeguarding culture, embedding learning from national and local reviews, and strengthening multi-agency partnerships with health, social care, police and voluntary sector partners. This is a pivotal role in supporting the Trust s commitment to protecting children and promoting their welfare.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced specialist clinical advice and leadership on all aspects of safeguarding children and young people, including complex and high-risk child protection cases.
  • Demonstrate a high level of legal literacy, including the Children Act, family law, and statutory safeguarding guidance, supporting staff in clinical decision-making and legal processes.
  • Act as a trusted source of expert advice for healthcare professionals on sensitive, emotive, and complex safeguarding matters.
  • Lead and influence the Trust s safeguarding children strategy, policies, and internal governance arrangements in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023) and CQC requirements.
  • Deputise for the Head of Safeguarding as required and contribute to service development, workforce planning, and recruitment.
  • Develop, review, and implement safeguarding policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines, ensuring learning from national and local reviews is embedded into practice.
  • Fulfil the statutory role of Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children in accordance with the Safeguarding Accountability and Assurance Framework and the NMC Code.
  • Lead the Trust s response to Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (CSPRs), Serious Incidents, and other statutory enquiries, ensuring learning is disseminated and implemented.
  • Oversee safeguarding audit, performance monitoring, and data analysis, providing assurance and reports through Trust governance structures and to senior leadership.

We promote the wellbeing and safety of all our patients and carers by acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately, according to the standards determined by our policy and procedures. All posts working with vulnerable groups will be subject to an enhanced criminal records check upon appointment and staff will need to give their consent for the Trust to receive regular updates on their criminal records status throughout their employment.
