Job Description & How to Apply Below

We are seeking a Trustee Treasurer to support our growing education charity at a key point of development. You will provide financial oversight, work closely with our accounts support, and help ensure resources are used responsibly to maximise impact.

What difference will you make?

The Trustee Treasurer will play a vital role in strengthening the Foundation’s financial resilience and governance. By providing clear oversight and guidance, the Treasurer will help ensure that trustees have confidence in the organisation’s financial position and are able to make informed, responsible decisions. As the Foundation grows, managing multiple funding streams and planning for sustainability becomes increasingly important. The Treasurer’s role will help the board understand financial risks and opportunities early, allowing the organisation to respond thoughtfully rather than reactively.

Strong financial governance also supports trust with funders, partners, and stakeholders. The Treasurer will help ensure that financial reporting is clear, timely, and aligned with funder expectations, contributing directly to the Foundation’s ability to secure and manage future funding. Ultimately, the Treasurer’s work helps protect and amplify impact. When finances are well overseen, the operational team can focus on delivering effective programmes, knowing that sustainability and accountability are being held at board level.

What

are we looking for?

We are seeking a Trustee Treasurer with experience in finance, accounting, or financial oversight, and the ability to apply this knowledge in a governance context. This may include professional experience in finance, accounting, audit, business leadership, or charity finance.

Previous experience as a Treasurer or trustee is welcome but not essential. What matters most is the ability to interpret financial information, ask thoughtful questions, and support others to understand financial matters clearly.

The Treasurer should be comfortable working collaboratively with accounts support and with non-financial trustees, translating financial information into accessible insights. A calm, supportive, and non-judgemental approach is essential, particularly as the organisation continues to evolve its systems and processes.

We value individuals who understand that good financial governance is about enabling impact, not restricting it. Candidates who bring humility, curiosity, and a willingness to support a growing organisation are strongly encouraged to apply.

What will you be doing?

Blue Magpie Foundation is entering an important stage of growth, having secured several significant grants and expanded its programme delivery in the UK and internationally. As our activity increases, strong financial oversight is essential to ensure sustainability, transparency, and confidence at board level.

We are seeking a Trustee Treasurer to provide strategic financial oversight and support to the Board. This is not a bookkeeping role. Day‑to‑day financial administration and reporting are handled by our accounts support. The Treasurer’s role is to review, interpret, and challenge financial information, helping trustees understand the Foundation’s financial position and risks.

The Treasurer will work closely with the accounts officer to review management accounts, cashflow, and budgets, ensuring these are clear, accurate, and appropriate for board oversight. They will then support the Chair and wider board by summarising key financial points, highlighting risks or concerns, and helping trustees make informed decisions.

Over the next 12–24 months, the Foundation expects to
  • Continue managing multiple restricted grants
  • Strengthen financial planning and reserves management
  • Improve financial reporting for trustees and funders
  • Support sustainable growth while managing capacity and risk

The Treasurer will play a central role in guiding the board through these priorities. This includes advising on financial controls, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and ensuring the board maintains appropriate oversight without becoming overly operational.

The Treasurer will also support a healthy governance culture around finance. This means encouraging trustees to engage with financial information confidently, asking the right questions, and ensuring financial decisions are aligned with the Foundation’s mission and long‑term objectives.

What makes this role particularly meaningful is its impact. Good financial oversight directly enables the Foundation to deliver high‑quality education programmes, steward grant funding responsibly, and build long‑term sustainability. The Treasurer’s contribution will help ensure that resources are used effectively to benefit children and families, both in the UK and through our international work.

This is a strategic and supportive role for someone who wants to use their financial insight to strengthen a growing charity at an important moment in its development.
