Associate Professor of Public Health, Research & Affiliation

Position Title:

Associate Professor of Public Health, Research & Affiliation

The Public Health/One Health Faculty at the Center for Animal & Human Health in Appalachia will coordinate and expand the work of Lincoln Memorial University-College of Veterinary Medicine. The faculty member will research public and animal health trends, risks, and hazards throughout Appalachia and provide findings to public health professionals at the University, county, state, and federal level. The work will identify opportunities for outreach and service with direct benefit to the region.

The faculty will also provide graduate classroom instruction to students in the Master of Science program on topics related to scientific research design and analysis methods for public health.

Qualifications
  • PhD in a public health field or DrPH with experience and potential to be appointed at the assistant professor level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • DVM, MD, DO, DDS or other clinical medical degree.
  • Experience in an academic setting.
  • Peer‑reviewed scientific publications.
  • Grant‑writing experience.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Knowledge of or experience in Appalachia.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate a research program that addresses the global health connections between natural and man‑made environments and animal and human infectious diseases in Appalachia.
  • Develop, implement, and advise CAHA summer research students.
  • Collaborate with other LMU colleges, schools and departments to develop transdisciplinary approaches to One Health research.
  • Promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff and students.
  • Promote the mission of the University to all faculty, staff, students and the community at large.
  • Interact with LMU – CVM and School of Mathematics and Sciences department heads and administration as it relates to their respective departments and coordinate with them on various activities.
  • Plan and direct detailed studies of public and animal health issues to discover ways to prevent and treat the issues.
  • Collect and analyze data by using observations, interviews, surveys and diagnostic samples to identify patterns and trends in animal and public health throughout the region.
  • Communicate to policymakers, practitioners and the public.
  • Support the missions of CAHA by contributing to community educational program development, the annual CAHA conference, curricular development, and service in support of CAHA’s mission to improve animal health and public health in the Appalachian region.
  • Instruct in courses only in the Master of Science program and provide consulting to graduate students and faculty that address statistical research design and analysis in order to address questions regarding public health phenomena and basic scientific investigation.
  • Uphold ethical principles of clinical and translational research, and methods by which such research is conducted, evaluated, explained to patients, and applied to patient care.
  • Participate on University committees.
  • Complete required institutional and program accreditation reports and other reports necessary for the operation and advancement of the University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
