Estates Officer
Location: Harrogate Salary: £27,354 per year + £3,485 on-call allowance Hours: Full-time, 35 hours/week Shifts: Alternating weekly
- Early Shift: 6:00am–1:30pm
- Afternoon Shift: 12:00pm–7:30pm
On-Call: 1 in 6 weeks, with generous overtime rates

Reed is proud to be working with a prestigious educational institution that’s looking for a reliable, hands‑on Estates Officers to help keep their site safe, secure, and in tip‑top shape. You’ll be the go‑to person for everything from unlocking buildings and fixing furniture to supporting school events and responding to out‑of‑hours emergencies. It’s a role that keeps you moving, thinking, and making a real difference every day.
What You’ll Be Doing Security & Site Access- Lock and unlock buildings for daily use and special events
- Be part of a keyholder rota, responding to alarms and call‑outs (yes, even at night!)
- Carry out regular security checks and liaise with police or contractors when needed
- Tackle basic repairs: light bulbs, door handles, drains, furniture, and more
- Paint, decorate, and help with improvement projects like shelving and noticeboards
- Identify hazards and make safe — you’re the first line of defence against wear and tear
- Support heating, lighting, and water systems,know your way around meters and isolation points
- Keep records for energy use and report any issues
- Deliver parcels and move furniture around the site
- Set up rooms for exams, meetings, and community events
- Help manage lost property, post, stationery, and even college vehicles
- Drive when needed (banking runs, minibus support, etc.)
- Be ready to respond to emergencies like fire, flood, or break‑ins
- Full, clean driving licence
- Emergency First Aid at Work certification
- GCSE English or equivalent
- Basic numeracy and IT skills
- Willingness to work at height and take on physical tasks
- A flexible, reliable attitude and team spirit
- Awareness of safeguarding and health & safety practices
- D1 licence or higher
- Experience in caretaking, maintenance, or facilities roles
- Familiarity with H&S documentation and procedures
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and record‑keeping systems
- Competitive hourly rate: £15.03/hour
- Guaranteed on‑call allowance: £4.00/hour
- Overtime for call‑outs:
- Mon–Sat: Time and a half
- Sundays & Bank Holidays: Double time
- Rota‑based bank holiday and Christmas cover
