We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for motivated and compassionate nurses or midwives to train as Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (Health Visitors). This Band 5 Student Health Visitor post provides a structured pathway into the Health Visiting profession, combining academic study with supervised practice in community settings.
You will join a supportive and experienced team committed to helping you develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to qualify as a Band 6 Health Visitor.

The salary for the student role will be mid-point Band 5 which is currently £33,487 per annum pro rata.
Main duties of the job- To participate in all elements of the SCPHN programme both theory and practice and ensure completion of all approved programme documentation and assessments which must be submitted within time scale.
- To take responsibility in organising regular planned tripartite and bipartite meetings with your Practice Assessor and Academic Assessor.
- To fully participate in the teaching strategies used by the Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor.
- To develop professional knowledge and competence, pertaining to Health Visiting and relevant to safe standards of professional practice.
- To accurately record information within system One records understanding and documenting cumulative risk and actioning appropriately. Records to be contemporaneous and recorded timely as per trust policy.
- Confidentiality to be maintained at all times. Access to electronic devices to be kept safe and stored as per trust policy.
- Under the supervision of the Practice Assessor or Practice Supervisor manage delegated workload/caseload and supervise staff if appropriate.
- To undertake nursing and public health duties under direct and indirect supervision of the Practice Assessor or Practice Supervisor
- To act in accordance with all Trust policies.
- To develop skills in nurse prescribing, leading to qualification as a community prescriber. To demonstrate the ability to prescribe safely and effectively.

Upon successful completion of the SCPHN programme and achievement of professional registration, you will be eligible to be offered a Band 6 Health Visitor post. Band 6 posts are allocated based on available vacancies across the geographical region and may not be in the same locality where you trained.

Important Information About the Training ContractThis is a fixed-term training post for the duration of the SCPHN programme. You are required to complete all academic and practice-based elements within the University s cohort timescales. Any extensions will be managed in line with NHSE Policy for Funding Extensions and in collaboration with the Trust and the University.
