Overview

We are looking for a Tenancy Relations Officer, who will protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our residents, providing high quality support and advice to residents.

The purpose of our Private Housing Standards Service is to improve housing standards ensuring all privately rented accommodation is well managed, properly maintained, safe and habitable, and providing tenancy relations support to private tenants and landlords. This is achieved by providing advice and guidance and where necessary by enforcing relevant legislation to deliver the Councils statutory Housing functions.

Responsibilities
  • Support the operational delivery of the Private Housing Standards Service by providing advice, support and mediation services to tenants and landlords on their rights and responsibilities in the private rented sector, ensuring compliance with housing legislation and promoting good tenancy relations.
  • Investigating complaints and providing specialist advice, advocacy, and casework support to tenants affected by relevant issues in the private rented sector, ensuring landlord compliance with the Renters' Rights Act.
  • Liaising with landlords and letting agents and taking enforcement action where necessary in line with the Council Enforcement Policy to uphold tenants' rights.
  • Provide a range of legislative and regulatory advice and training to landlords, tenants, other officers and agencies about tenancy rights.
  • Prevent harassment and illegal eviction. Assist in the decision making in respect of the instigation of formal legal action, drafting warning letters and enforcement notices.
  • Support the collection, preparation and presentation of admissible evidence for legal proceedings, including the preparation of statements and giving evidence in court and tribunals when required.
  • Provide appropriate advice, guidance, and interpretation of relevant legislation in line with the professional service of the post, as required.
Qualifications

You will have knowledge and commitment to quality customer focussed services with good problem-solving skills and the ability to find innovative solutions, knowledge of local authority practices and procedures, understanding of how policies/procedures can be applied in practice to result in required outcomes, experience of partnership working with internal and external stakeholders. Track record of managing conflict and complaints informally and formally, understanding of housing and tenancy law in practice.

Salary

£34,434 to £38,220 pro rata, per annum
