Job Summary
Seeking a talented and self‑motivated automotive EE HW Engineer for the Design Engineering group. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, developing and validating automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs). Duties include supporting programs at the production facility before and after start of production (SOP). Day‑to‑day responsibilities include supporting design activities for automotive control systems during quotation, development and mass production.
The candidate will need to understand and be able to communicate & explain technical concepts, testing methods and documentation procedures. This may take the form of preparing presentation material, completing documentation, and attending/leading meetings. The support of products already in production can include aiding/leading root‑cause analysis activities for part failures, outlining/determining testing pass/fail criteria. The support of products under development can include creating test plans, analyzing product specifications, supporting the testing of prototypes, and creating test specifications.

- Localization of new product designs for preparation to be built at the manufacturing site. This includes products designed by the Americas region and Japan region.
- Creating registered parts lists for the manufacturing site based on engineering bill of materials.
- Request work orders to build samples and coordinate with P.E. on executing builds.
- Coordinate with the customer on project milestones, sample deliveries, documentation deliveries.
- Write & issue build instructions when engineering assembly drawings are not fully released yet.
- Programming and bench testing samples.
- Provide engineering support for on‑site DV/PV environmental testing.
- Failure analysis and troubleshooting of internal samples, validation samples, or customer field failures. Prepare failure reports when appropriate.
- Support model changes or introduction of new models in post‑production.
- Support occasional component changes due end‑of‑life or supply chain interruptions caused by natural disasters / quality concerns. Requires the ability to understand component specifications, identify similar parts, and perform a decision analysis.
- Analyze and comprehend customer requirements and customer needs.
- Modify existing designs or create entirely new HW designs to realize the customer’s desired operational and performance requirements.
- Use technical and engineering acumen to perform the necessary analysis, simulation and verification of analog and digital hardware and associated firmware.
- Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team of engineers, customers and vendors to discuss existing and potential new projects.
- Prepare and maintain various engineering documents to support production of existing and new products:
Parts Lists, BoMs, IMDS, Design Notifications, Change Notifications. - Support prototype builds for new & existing products.
- Develop and manage test specifications and their execution.
- Design and coordinate the fabrication and configuration of test equipment for hardware testing.
- Work with and support manufacturing teams to release hardware designs into production.
- Represent employer at customer meetings to explain or defend technical findings and technical recommendations.
- Assist root cause analysis and corrective action for components and products. Prepare and present final reports for failure analysis activities to appropriate technicians and engineering personnel.
- Attend training to learn new tools and methodologies and keep up to date on market and technical trends.
- Work with other Astemo engineers to ensure program goals are met, schedules are maintained, and problems encountered during the development process are satisfactorily resolved.
- Embedded H/W design experience for automotive applications.
- Understanding of analog and digital hardware systems as applied to automotive control systems.
- Understanding of EMC specifications and EMC mitigation techniques.
- Familiarity with EMC & environmental automotive validation test flows.
