This position works a set 12-hour shift on a two-week rotating schedule. Employees work 36 hours one week and 48 hours the following week or vice versa. Available shifts are 7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.

$7,500 sign on bonus awarded to new hires to state service with a one-year written agreement required. The bonus is available for Registered Nurse II that are new to DBHDS or have not worked for at least one year for Department of Behavioral Health Developmental Services (DBHDS).

Competitive salaries: RN II-Starting Pay from $79,572 and increases to commensurate with experience, education, and credentials. Total compensation including paid time off and benefits begins at $120,408 for this role.

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by promoting recover, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: eight behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services.

We are a 250 bed Joint Commission/CMS accredited hospital located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley within 30 minutes of major university towns. Our new wings are scheduled to open by the end of March, which will add 56 beds to our capacity.

A Registered Nurse II at DBHDS is responsible for providing advanced nursing care for patients with psychiatric disorders in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, as well as nursing standards and regulations. Registered Nurses are also responsible for safely implementing the use of Seclusion/Restraints including knowledge of physical/emotional risk factors of the patients served at the facility.

• Delegate and supervise nursing staff.
• Effective communication (written, verbal and sign).
• Ability to participate in interdisciplinary ability team.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.
• Ability to work overtime due to staffing emergencies in a 24-hour 7 day per week psychiatric hospital which at times may mean working a 16-hour shift if and when necessary.
• Complete all annual competency training to include TOVA III with physical restraints.
• Complete and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers with the American Heart Association.
• Demonstrates knowledge of recovery/trauma informed care.

Bachelor's and Masters Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution or higher education.

Veteran or Spouse of Veteran.

Bilingual - Spanish.
