JMU is a selective, public institution with a growing national reputation and programs across undergraduate, master’s and doctoral levels.
The Shenandoah Valley Child Development Clinic (SVCDC) is hiring for a Clinical Psychology Post Doctoral Fellow. The SVCDC is an interdisciplinary clinic serving children and families from birth to 21 years old for more than 40 years. The clinic addresses education, behavior, health, emotions, development, and the parent-child relationship, including foster children and high-risk families. The primary goal is to support children with evaluation and services to maximize potential.
Clinic hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The SVCDC is part of IIHHS within JMU’s College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS).
- Conduct psychological assessments, including gathering cognitive, social, emotional, and behavioral information through record review and parent interviews; administer, score, interpret standardized and informal instruments; and write comprehensive psychological reports.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop interventions and recommendations based on assessment results.
- Provide care coordination by participating in feedback sessions with parents and serving as a resource to parents, schools, agencies, and the clinic evaluation team.
- Engage in individual or family therapy if time permits.
- Pursue research opportunities up to 20% of duties if interested.
- Participate in didactic opportunities; receive 1–2 hours of formal supervision weekly and approximately 1 hour of monthly group supervision with other fellows; attend guest lectures for approved courses as available.
- Possibility of continuing after the one-year fellowship based on performance and licensure attainment in Virginia.
- Completion of clinical psychology doctoral studies from an accredited college or university.
- Completion of APA internship.
- Experience and/or knowledge of developmental issues and childhood behavioral and emotional disorders or experience working with children preferred.
- Experience/understanding of assessment of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
