If so, consider applying for the Community Development Department's Site Development Compliance Specialist position! In this vital role, your daily work will assist the community and the department in providing a more desirable, livable, safe, and enduring built environment!
The Site Development Compliance Specialist is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $23.93 - $26.33 per hour (equivalent to $49,774 - $54,766 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy.
As the Site Development Compliance Specialist, you'll be responsible for performing intermediate technical work involving various engineering assistance tasks. In the role, you’ll organize and conduct construction site inspections to ensure compliance with erosion control and stormwater management regulations. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for maintaining accurate reports and records of inspections, entering data into project databases and filing systems, and coordinating and participating in advanced ordinance enforcement actions.
This position also involves assisting the Department of Community Development’s Engineering Division with special tasks and related work as needed.
- High school diploma or GED with coursework in math, environmental science, regulatory compliance, computer training, or a related field and minimal experience in engineering or site construction and inspection. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.

- Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) Inspector certification within twelve (12) months of hire. The DEQ ESC Combined Administrator certification satisfies this requirement.
- Virginia DEQ Stormwater Management (SWM) Inspector certification within twelve (12) months of hire. The DEQ SWM Combined Administrator certification satisfies this requirement.
- GIS and/or CAD experience desired.
- Virginia DEQ ESC Plan Reviewer certification desired.
- Virginia DEQ SWM Plan Reviewer certification desired.
- DMV record check;
- Education history/certification verification;
- Criminal background check.
