Electric Distribution Engineer

The Harrisonburg Electric Commission is seeking to fill the position of Distribution Engineer.

Responsibilities include:

• Engineering of distribution system improvements and maintenance
• System planning and project management in the areas of substation and transmission line construction
• Work directly with developers and industrial accounts to ensure adequate and reliable power availability
• Responsible for distribution engineering activities, overhead and underground, relating to residential, commercial and industrial growth as well as utility relocations resulting from road widening and construction
• Candidate must be knowledgeable in load management, SCADA operations and mapping using an AutoCAD based system
• Investigating and responding to customer questions and complaints in a timely manner
• Working closely with Line, Substations, and Generation crews
• Able to write and perform switching orders
• Able to make informed immediate decisions in emergency or highly stressful situations
• Experience with GIS data gathering preferred but not required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must in order to deal with a wide range of personalities both inside and outside the organization
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education:

• ABET Accredited Bachelor's Degree (Required)
• Emphasis in Power Systems (Preferred)

Experience:

• Electrical Engineering: 5 years (Required)

Language:

• English (Required)
• Spanish (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Required)
