ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY

POSITION:
Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in Social Work

QUALIFICATIONS:

DSW, PhD or EdD required and MSW required. Experience in college teaching and program accreditation and assessment preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach in CSWE-accredited social work program and general education curriculum at the undergraduate level in a residential setting
  • Build program capacity for online social work course offerings and the addition of a master’s in social work degree
  • Contribute specific expertise in social stratification, diversity, race, and gender
  • Engage in ongoing academic scholarship in social work, including research collaborations with students
  • Remain current in the field of social work and best practices in social work education
  • Provide faculty service to EMU at the departmental and university levels
POSITION DETAILS

Nine-month contract. 24 semester hours per year. Salary determined by education and experience. Eastern Mennonite University uses a tenure-with-review contract system.

  • EMU emphasizes inclusive pedagogy that is reflective, trauma informed, and student centered
  • Teaching load includes courses in race and gender; intercultural learning; and power, systems and equity
  • Responsibilities may include arranging placements and supervising student practica in social work
  • Position comes with opportunity to contribute to strategic program leadership, including accreditation and assessment
  • EMU professors should be enthusiastic about the mentoring and holistic advising of a diverse student body, including many first-generation and BIPIC students, across academic and practicum settings
APPOINTMENT DATE

Positions begin mid-August 2026. EMU reserves the right to fill the position at any time or keep the position open.
