Overview

The Manager, Placement, Commercial – Middle/Large (Fleet) reports to the Director of Placement and serves as a direct contributor to the efficiency and optimization of our organization through development and deployment of all placement activities and projects. This position oversees placement strategies and carrier relationships specific to fleet transportation accounts, ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines and optimizing market access for this specialized segment.

It is also responsible for carrying the organization’s reputation and professional manner of conducting business in dealings with customers, carriers, and colleagues.

Scope

This role is responsible for managing carrier placement team members and supporting Commercial non-fleet internal rating processes with select insurance carriers. In addition to core placement responsibilities, this role will manage fleet transportation risks, ensuring accurate rating, underwriting alignment, and carrier negotiations tailored to fleet transportation requirements.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Transportation Risk Expertise:
    Develop and maintain deep knowledge of non-fleet transportation risks, including regulatory requirements, coverage options, and market trends.
  • Team Leadership and Talent:
    Manage the carrier placement specialist(s), support team development and goals.
  • Culture and Development:
    Build partnerships with Client Advisors and Account Management to determine marketing strategy and execute placement for new and existing accounts.
  • Carrier Performance Management:
    Partner with the Director of Placement to maintain and cultivate carrier relationships for the Midwest Division, with a focus on Strategic Carrier Partners.
  • Performance Monitoring:
    Implement, support, and monitor KPIs to measure carrier placement performance, track metrics, and provide regular reports to senior leadership.
  • Analysis and Assessment:
    Analyze submissions to make decisions based on risk characteristics, exposure analysis, hazard recognition and control; ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and state regulations. Review policies and contracts and make recommendations for improvement where applicable.
  • Carrier Relationships:
    Attend seminars, meetings, carrier events, and educational activities to improve job expertise and product knowledge; stay aligned with underwriting and sales capabilities of market participants.
  • Insurance Placement:
    Support new and renewal remarketing, including submissions to insurance companies, negotiation with carriers, and direct communication with insured to obtain information and answer questions.
  • Operational Excellence:
    Prepare property and casualty insurance submissions for new business prospects and renewing accounts, including insurance specifications, loss summaries, prospect profiles, and exposure schedules.
  • Process Improvement and Technology Integration:
    Promote and execute technology adoption, process optimization, automation, and efficiency improvements; ensure internal solutions such as AURIS and EPIC are adopted to maximize client retention and profitability.
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field preferred
  • Active property & casualty license
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in the insurance and/or financial services industries
  • Proven experience in managing teams, implementing process improvements, and driving operational excellence
  • Proven track record of driving operational excellence and efficiency in dynamic client experiences
  • Experience supporting the business development lifecycle
  • Self-motivated with the ability to motivate others in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent business and people decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle stress and meet deadlines with positive energy and professionalism
