About the Role
The Morrison Millwork Staff Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity and accuracy of the organization's accounting records. This position is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. The Staff Accountant will perform detailed account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, to verify the accuracy of financial data and identify discrepancies.
Additionally, this role involves preparing journal entries and assisting with job costing to support project accounting and budgeting efforts. Ultimately, the Staff Accountant ensures that all financial information is accurate, timely, and compliant with regulatory standards, enabling informed business decisions.
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of cash balances.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to various accounting transactions.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate any discrepancies or variances.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP.
- Support job costing activities by tracking and analyzing project-related expenses.
- Maintain and update the general ledger to reflect accurate financial data.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary financial information and resolve accounting issues.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
- Analyze account activity and provide detailed account analytical reports to management.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards in all financial processes.
- Assist with accounts receivable invoicing, collections, and credit applications as needed.
- Support sales tax, employment tax, and employee benefits accounting and payment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, time management, problem-solving, and math skills.
- Organized, dependable, and accountable for accuracy.
- Curious, growth-oriented mindset with interest in expanding accounting responsibilties.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of account experience required.
- Proven experience in bank reconciliation and general ledger accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in construction, distribution, manufacturing, or job-cost environments is a plus.
